Optical Rust Identification of Metal Parts

Simon Trans Kft. is a Hungarian-owned family business that has provided transportation and logistics services to the automotive industry since 2001. It has 130 employees, 30 trucks and more than 15,000 square meters of warehouse space. Simon Trans Kft. also performs quality control of automotive parts before delivery.

Simon Trans Kft. aims to improve its quality checking process by using the ORIMP experiment, which will implement a scanning system with AI.

Preventing defective parts from reaching their destination is crucial to avoid disrupting the production process and causing extra costs and environmental impact. Simon Trans Kft. conducted over 1.5 million quality checks last year, many of which involved detecting rusty parts from overseas shipments. These parts are visually inspected and sent to a sandblasting company for reworking if needed.

This system will have several benefits for Simon Trans Kft. and its partners:

  • First, it will eliminate human errors that may occur during visual inspection.
  • Second, it will ensure traceability of all the raw materials throughout the sorting, repacking, and quality control process.
  • Third, it will produce data that can be used by Simon Trans Kft.'s business intelligence program to generate reports and insights for their partners and suppliers, so they can improve their processes as well.

Simon Trans Kft.'s goal is to increase its sorting efficiency from less than 90% to 99%.
